Congratulations to Leo Campagna on his promotion to the academic title of Research Associate at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. Leo came to the Lab as a postdoc in 2013, and in the years since he has spearheaded an innovative research program on the genomics of speciation in Sporophila seedeaters, including successfully garnering grant support from NSF and fostering productive collaborations with colleagues both within and outside of Cornell. Leo simultaneously became expert at many aspects of computational genomics, and he has been generous in sharing his expertise with his colleagues in our lab group, undergraduate and graduate students, and a steady stream of visiting researchers (mostly from South America). In addition to this informal mentoring and collaboration, Leo has also led several formal courses, including a two-semester course series that includes a long January field trip to coastal Patagonia. Leo will continue all of these professional themes in his new role of Research Associate based in the Fuller Evolutionary Biology Program, where he is already a ‘big fish’ in our pond…
