New paper by Shawn and Matt

Postdoc Shawn Billerman has a new paper out in The Auk based on his PhD work with his advisor Matt Carling (himself a former postdoc here) at the University of Wyoming. The punch-line of this study has to do with their finding that Red-naped Sapsuckers are more aggressive towards simulated sapsucker intruders than are Red-breasted Sapsuckers — which is contrary to predictions based on the fact the Red-breasted Sapsuckers are expanding their distributional range at the expense of Red-naped Sapsuckers.

Billerman, S. M. and Matthey D. Carling. 2016. Differences in aggressive responses do not contribute to shifts in a sapsucker hybrid zone. Auk 134:202–214
