Over the past weekend Irby joined a large group of project alumni to celebrate the bird research program that has run continuously for half a century at the Hubbard Brook Experimental Forest in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. This project was initiated by Professor Dick Holmes, Irby’s undergraduate mentor at Dartmouth College, and to this day Dick remains very active in the endeavor; the weekend was also a celebration of his deeply influential role in the lives of dozens of undergrad, grad, and postdoctoral advisees and the more than 500 summer research interns who have contributed to the project over the years. Current and former Lab group alumni who joined the celebration include Mike Webster and Dustin Rubenstein, along with David Weber and Aimee Van Tatenhove who are summer interns there this year. Many thanks to our Jillian Ditner for crafting the professional geneology that we presented to Dick.
